I'm hoping that someone else has had the same goal as me and can walk me through the steps to use thunderbird as an email archiving solution.
I have an account at aim.com with a huge number of emails just sitting there. I'm looking to move to a new email address in the near future, so i feel that i need a bulletproof way to download all those old emails so i can then cancel that email account.
I need to download the whole shebang, emails, attachments, everything. I'd guess that all that infor would end up in a profile folder..is that correct? if so, could i simply burn that profile folder to disk? then if i ever needed to access those emails i could point the thunderbird program at the 'archive profile folder' and browse them as usual using thunderbird?
after i transition to a new email address i would expect to shut down the old email, but in the meantime it would be nice to have 2 profiles running at once..one to monitoring the old address (and downloading) and one monitoring the new address.
